Professor Dr. Andreas Flammer

Biography

Andreas Flammer is a senior physician in the Department of Cardiology at University Hospital Zurich (USZ) specializing in heart failure and transplantation. He studied at the University of Basel and completed his cardiology training at University Hospital Zurich and Mayo Clinic Rochester, USA. In 2014, he was granted Habilitation in Cardiology at the University of Zurich. Flammer heads the Heart Failure and Transplantation unit and has extensive experience in consultative roles, particularly concerning assist devices and amyloidosis. His research focuses on vascular function, especially related to retinal vascular health in the context of heart disease, including studies on endothelial dysfunction and dietary influences on heart failure. Flammer is an influential member of numerous professional societies, including the Swiss Society of Cardiology, where he has held leadership roles. He has contributed significantly to clinical research publications and serves as Editor-in-Chief of 'Cardiovascular Medicine,' the official journal of the Swiss Society of Cardiology. He actively engages in advancing education and consultation in his field and is recognized for his contributions to the heart transplantation community.
