Dr. Andreas Heinimann

Biography

Andreas Heinimann is an Associated Senior Research Scientist at the Centre Development Environment (CDE) at the University of Bern, specializing in development-oriented research in sustainable regional development. His work focuses on partnerships for sustainability transformations in the Global South, exploring concepts such as ecosystem services, biodiversity, and well-being. Heinimann has led various innovative projects, including Geo-Myanmar, aimed at democratizing land data access and ensuring sound resource management while protecting citizens' rights. He is also involved in the COUPLED project, which operationalizes telecouplings to address sustainability challenges in land use. His research interests encompass land system science and geographic information systems, particularly in relation to large spatial information systems and online platforms. With field experience in countries such as Myanmar, Vietnam, and Kenya, Heinimann engages in knowledge-based dialogues between science and society, emphasizing land governance and environmental justice.
