Biography

Andreas Mørkved Hellenes is a Research Fellow at Clare Hall, University of Cambridge, focusing on contemporary European history. He completed his PhD in History at the University of Oslo and Sciences Po Paris in 2019. His postdoctoral research at Aarhus University examined the Nordic model's global circulation of ideas between 1970 and 2020 under the supervision of Professor Mary Hilson, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. Currently, he is engaged in a research project funded by the Swedish Research Council, analyzing the ambitions and failures of a sustainable border-crossing transport system designed to economically integrate Scandinavia into the European Union during the 1980s and 1990s. Hellenes' overarching research theme is the study of political, cultural, and economic entanglements between Scandinavia and Europe, specifically through cultural diplomacy and the historical narrative surrounding the 'Swedish model' in the twentieth century. His work provides critical insights into the historical context of contemporary struggles for integration and sustainability in large-scale infrastructure projects across Europe.
