Dr. Andreas Kogelbauer

Biography

Andreas Kogelbauer is a senior lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. He has an extensive academic background with roles spanning back to 1992 when he worked as a research associate at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, USA. Prior to his current position, he was a senior research associate at the Laboratory for Technical Chemistry at ETH Zurich from 1995 to 1999 and a lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London from 1999 to 2004. He has a PhD in Technical Chemistry from the Technical University of Vienna, Austria, where his thesis focused on synthesis reactions using methylamines and zeolite catalysts. Kogelbauer's research interests primarily involve the application of heterogeneous catalysts for the synthesis of fine chemicals, aiming to provide environmentally benign production routes. He is particularly interested in zeolites due to their unique crystalline microporous nature which offers high thermal stability and ion-exchange capacities. Moreover, he emphasizes kinetic modeling and in-situ spectroscopic characterization for gaining a detailed mechanistic understanding of working catalysts.
