Biography

Andreas Kronenberg is a Professor and the Michael T. Halbouty Chair in Geology at Texas A&M University. He also serves as the Associate Director of the Center for Tectonophysics. His research interests encompass structural geology, tectonophysics, and mineral physics, focusing on the mechanical properties of Earth materials and the deformation mechanisms that govern their rheology. His investigations have addressed several fundamental topics, including the effect of water on the weakening of quartz and feldspar and the chemical influences of fluids on the mechanical properties of silicates. Dr. Kronenberg explores high-temperature creep mechanisms of silicates and carbonates, examining the roles of hydrous species on mineral-fluid interfaces in relation to crack growth and healing. He is an active member of the American Geophysical Union's Mineral Rock Physics community and participates in the development of StraboSpot's digital archiving of experimental rock mechanics data. Dr. Kronenberg is recognized for his contributions to geology and has received multiple awards throughout his career.
