Andreas Mortensen earned an engineering diploma in 1980 from École des Mines de Paris and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1986. He is currently a Professor and Director of the Laboratory for Mechanical Metallurgy at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Professor Mortensen has co-authored several monographs, over 200 refereed scientific publications, and holds 15 patents. He has served on various committees in academia, industry, and government as a consultant and has edited journals and books. His recent accolades include the ERC Advanced Grant in 2012 and the Grande Médaille from the Société Française de Métallurgie in 2016.
