Biography

Professor Andreas Pichlmair researches the interaction between viral pathogens and host organisms. His work focuses on understanding how viruses activate innate immune mechanisms that play a crucial role in the body’s defense against pathogens. Utilizing mass spectrometry and similar large-scale techniques, Pichlmair conducts system analyses to identify signaling cascades and mechanisms involved in the antiviral immune response. He earned his degree from the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and completed his doctoral work at the Institute of Virology, Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg in 2004, under Professor Otto Haller. He later obtained a PhD from the London Research Institute, Cancer Research UK, supervised by Professor Caetano Reis e Sousa, in 2008. From 2008 to 2011, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Center for Molecular Medicine, Austrian Academy of Sciences, under Professor Giulio Superti-Furga.
