Biography

Andreas Spahn is an Associate Professor in the Philosophy and Ethics research group at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences at Eindhoven University of Technology. His research focuses on the ethics of technology, particularly the ethics of energy technologies. He has published work on the ethics of behavior change technologies, persuasive technologies, ethics of energy systems, and environmental ethics. He believes that the transition towards sustainability requires technological innovations that can change user behavior. He raises questions about how to ethically persuade users to change their behavior and the potential for technology to contribute positively to the quality of life and enhance social values. Dr. Spahn studied at the University of Essen (Germany) and the University of Notre Dame (Indiana, USA), obtaining his doctorate from Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany) in 2007. He has been at Eindhoven University of Technology since then and has contributed significantly to research projects in persuasive technologies and energy technologies, including involvement in EU Horizon 2020 projects.
