Dr. Andreea Ruxandra Schmitzer

Biography

Professor Andreea-Ruxandra Schmitzer is a faculty member at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Montreal. Her research interests lie in the field of organic and bio-organic supramolecular chemistry, focusing on molecular recognition and the development of new catalytic systems and transmembrane transporters. With a passion for science ignited in her family's garage alongside her grandfather, she has dedicated her career to exploring the intricate mechanisms involved in organic catalysis and enzymatic reactions. Schmitzer actively supervises graduate students, guiding them through complex research projects aimed at addressing critical issues in chemistry, including the development of innovative treatments for pancreatic cancer. Throughout her career, she has been involved in numerous research projects, receiving funding from esteemed organizations such as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the Fonds de recherche du Québec. She is also a member of the CCVC - Centre en chimie verte et catalyse, where she contributes to advancing green chemistry practices. An advocate for science education, she conducts workshops for young students, inspired by the legacy of Marie Curie. Professor Schmitzer continues to be a leading figure in her field, dedicated to both research and teaching at the University of Montreal.
