Biography

Andreea Diaconescu is a cognitive computational neuroscientist with a particular interest in mathematical modeling of maladaptive behavior and whole-brain dysconnectivity in psychiatric populations. She leads the Cognitive Network Modelling team at the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics, focusing on developing, validating, and applying hierarchical Bayesian models to infer individual-specific disturbances in information processing behaviors from brain imaging and electrophysiological data. Her research emphasizes modeling abnormal beliefs that lead to the emergence of delusions, psychosis, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors in psychoaffective disorders. Dr. Diaconescu received her bachelor's degree in psychology with honors from York University in 2005, supervised by Prof. Randy McIntosh at the Rotman Research Institute. She completed her PhD in cognitive neuroscience at the University of Toronto and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral scientist at the Zurich Translational Neuromodelling Unit in collaboration with the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich. She also served as a junior group leader at the Basel University Psychiatric Hospital.
