Biography

Andrei Marmor is the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor of Philosophy and Law at Cornell Law School, a position he has held since joining in 2015. Before that, he was a Professor of Law at the University of Southern California. He obtained his law and philosophy degrees from Tel Aviv University in Israel and earned his D.Phil from the University of Oxford in the UK. Marmor has extensive teaching experience, having taught law for ten years at Tel Aviv University. His research interests encompass the philosophy of law, as well as moral, social, and political philosophy, and the philosophy of language. He has published dozens of articles and authored six book monographs, including 'Social Conventions: Language and Law' (Princeton, 2009), 'Philosophy of Law' (Princeton, 2011), and 'Language and Law' (Oxford, 2014). His works have been translated into several languages, including Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Hebrew, and Italian. Additionally, he is the founding editor of the 'Journal of Ethics and Social Philosophy' and has edited significant volumes in legal philosophy.
