Andrei is a practitioner architect and educator with 16 years of experience in higher education in architecture. He holds a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, and a doctorate in Architecture and Computer Science (with highest distinction) from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and is currently an associate professor at the Faculty of Design, University of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He is a researcher in digital design, advanced manufacturing, and structural form finding (3D graphical statics), and a recognized developer of architectural software tools. One of his software tools dedicated to mesh segmentation and deployment for digital fabrication, Ivy Rhino/Grasshopper, is used worldwide by enthusiasts of digital design, installation manufacturers, researchers, and educators. Andrei is the lead researcher and principal software developer for another significant generative design tool used for structural form finding during the early design stages, called PolyFrame. His research and development work has been recognized and deepened through a prestigious Fulbright postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California Berkeley - College of Environmental Design in 2015-2016. In 2018, he concluded another postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania - School of Design, where he continues to work as a lead researcher and developer at the Polyhedral Structures Laboratory.
