Andrés Guiot Isaac is a Fellow at the London School of Economics, where he explores the intersections of intellectual, institutional, and economic histories of development in the 20th century, with a particular focus on Latin America. He is currently working on a monograph titled 'Development Stability: Economic Technocracy Colombia,' which studies the construction of state capacities through the lens of the economy in Colombia during the mid-twentieth century, showcasing technocratic economic governance alongside aid agencies and development experts. His work is based on extensive archival research and oral interviews, tracing the actors involved in development assistance programs that negotiated and established a new institutional infrastructure for state economic interventions. Guiot Isaac holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, where his dissertation was awarded the Joseph Dorfman 2024 Prize from the History of Economics Society. His research interests include the professionalization of economics in the Global South, the intersections of development and democracy, and the history of development thought, particularly through the works of Albert O. Hirschman. He has also translated the Spanish version of Jeremy Adelman’s biography of Hirschman. At LSE, he teaches BSc and MSc modules in the history of economics and supervises undergraduate and master's students.
