Biography

Andres Kasekamp holds the Elmar Tampõld Chair in Estonian Studies and is a Professor in the Department of History and the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. He has a distinguished academic background, having previously served as a Professor of Baltic Politics at the University of Tartu and as the Director of the Estonian Foreign Policy Institute in Tallinn. Kasekamp has held visiting positions at several prestigious institutions, including Humboldt University of Berlin and the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, as well as the Institute of European History in Mainz. He has been actively involved in academic leadership, serving as President of the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies and as Editor of the Journal of Baltic Studies. His research areas focus on populist radical right parties, memory politics, and European foreign security policy, particularly in the context of cooperation and conflict in the Baltic Sea region. Kasekamp is the author of the influential book "Radical Right in Interwar Estonia" published by Palgrave in 2000, and his award-winning work "A History of the Baltic States" published by Macmillan in 2018 is now in its second edition and has been translated into multiple languages. He is currently involved in editing the Oxford Handbook of Modern Baltic History.
