Biography

Andrew W. Austin, an adjunct professor at Texas Law, has a distinguished background as a Judge and commercial trial lawyer. He served as a United States Magistrate Judge in Austin, Texas, from 1999 to 2021. Prior to his judicial role, he practiced law at Vinson & Elkins and several other firms. He graduated with honors from the University of Virginia in 1982 and later from the University of Texas Law School in 1985. Professor Austin has also held teaching positions at the University of Texas Law School, focusing on clerkship preparation and advocacy skills. He enhanced his legal education with an MPhil degree from the University of Cambridge, which he obtained in 1990 after taking a year to study jurisprudence. Throughout his career, he has contributed significantly to legal education and the practice of law.
