Biography

Andrew Baron is a Professor and Associate Head of Graduate Affairs in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. He is the founder and director of the Living Lab at Science World and directs the Social Cognitive Development Lab. His research primarily explores the development of social cognition, focusing on mechanisms that shape the development of implicit intergroup cognition, including social category concepts, attitudes, and stereotypes. His lab investigates how children, particularly those aged 3-10, acquire and develop implicit associations that contribute to social knowledge structures and intergroup prejudice. This work has implications across various fields including cognitive science, social cognition, education, and policy. In addition to his primary research focus, Dr. Baron has a secondary interest in Social/Personality psychology. The lab employs interconnections across the areas of psychology, incorporating theories and methods from social, cognitive, and developmental psychology to explore broader questions regarding implicit associations and behavior.
