Biography

Andrew Boutros is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He received his BSc in Electronics Engineering from the German University in Cairo in 2016, and completed his MASc and PhD in Electrical Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto in 2018 and 2024, respectively. His research interests lie in architecture, CAD tools, and reconfigurable computer hardware, focusing on domain-specific acceleration for computationally demanding workloads. Prior to his PhD, he worked for four years as a research scientist at Intel Labs in Intel’s Programmable Solutions Group, where he led the Toronto office for MangoBoost, a startup dedicated to developing specialized accelerators for datacenter infrastructure tasks. Andrew has published over 30 papers and has received four paper awards in the area of reconfigurable computing.
