Biography

Andrew R. Carey, MD, is an Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He specializes in neuro-ophthalmic disorders, including conditions such as optic neuritis, uveitis-related papillitis, ischemic and hereditary optic neuropathies, as well as retinal diseases like age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Carey employs innovative imaging techniques to better diagnose and understand optic nerve and retinal diseases. He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Davidson College in 2006 then went on to receive his MD from the University of South Florida in 2010. Following an ophthalmology residency at the University of South Florida where he served as Chief Resident, he completed Fellowships in Neuro-Ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in 2015 and in Medical Retina at the University of Iowa in 2016.
