Biography

Andrew Chien is the William Eckhardt Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago. He is also the Director of the CERES Center for Unstoppable Computing and a Senior Computer Scientist at Argonne National Laboratory. Chien's research interests focus on sustainable computing, cloud software, resource management, supercomputer architecture, and hardware system architecture. He leads the Large-scale Sustainable Systems Research Group and has contributed significantly to numerous national and international advisory committees, including service on the National Science Foundation’s CISE Advisory Committee. Chien has held various prestigious positions, including Editor-in-Chief of Communications of the ACM and Vice President of Research at Intel Corporation. His academic background includes a Sc.D., S.M., and S.B. in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His extensive teaching and research experiences span several prominent institutions, during which he has published numerous influential papers that explore advanced topics in cloud computing and systems architecture. Chien is an elected fellow of ACM, IEEE, and AAAS, and has received multiple awards throughout his career for outstanding contributions to the field of computing.
