Biography

Andrew J. Cohen, M.D. is a Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Brown University's Warren Alpert Medical School. He graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, and obtained his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Cohen completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Boston City Hospital and went on to complete a clinical research fellowship in Nephrology at Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School. His extensive research interests focus on the renin-angiotensin system, diabetic kidney disease, and the impact of health policy on the treatment of kidney failure. Prior to joining Brown, he served a notable 24-year career at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he held the position of Vice Chancellor for Education. In 2002, he was appointed Chief of Nephrology at Ochsner Health System in New Orleans before returning to New England in February 2008 to take his current role at Brown.
