Dr. Andrew Cooper

Biography

Andrew Fenton Cooper is a Professor and University Research Chair at the Balsillie School of International Affairs at the University of Waterloo. He has an extensive academic background, having obtained a BA and MA in Political Science from the University of Waterloo and a D.Phil. in Political Studies from the University of Oxford. His research interests focus on Diplomacy, International Institutions, Comparative Foreign Policy, and Global Governance. Cooper has served as an Associate Research Fellow at the United Nations University Centre for Regional Integration Studies and has held various prestigious visiting professorships globally, including at Shiv Nadar University in India and the Australian National University. His contributions to academia include over 250 publications, including articles in top journals such as International Organization and International Affairs. He has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Distinguished Scholar Award from the International Studies Association in 2019 and the University of Waterloo Arts Award for Research Excellence in 2014. Cooper is noted for his influential role in shaping Canadian foreign policy and has presented at numerous key conferences, including the 2017 conference on the future of foreign service organized by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
