Biography

Professor Andrew Cundy is a Chair in Environmental Radiochemistry at the University of Southampton. He has a PhD in Geology from Southampton, which he completed in 1994. With 30 years of research and teaching experience, his work focuses on environmental cycling behavior of aquatic and terrestrial pollutants including radioactive, metal, organic, and plastic contaminants. His expertise encompasses environmental radioactivity and radiochemistry, sediment geochemistry, radiometric dating, and contaminated land and water management. Cundy is actively involved in a variety of research projects related to environmental geoscience, including studies on sedimentary records of environmental change and strategies for contaminated land management. He is the Discipline Lead for Radiochemistry at Nuclear Waste Services and serves on committees such as the Geohazards committee for the International Geoscience Programme. Cundy's ongoing projects explore the development of novel techniques for groundwater treatment and sustainable remediation strategies, often collaborating with UK and international partners. He is committed to training the next generation of scientists, working with undergraduate, Master's, and PhD students, as well as postdoctoral researchers.
