Andrew Dillon studies the human response to information technology and services, advancing richer theories and methods in user-centered design. With a background in psychology and a M.A. from University College Cork and a Ph.D. from Loughborough University of Technology, he has served as a Research Fellow at the Human Sciences & Advanced Technology Research Institute in the UK. He is the founding Director of the Masters in Human-Computer Interaction at the School of Informatics, Indiana University, and has held the position of dean at the School of Information at the University of Texas. Currently, he is the V.M. Daniel Regents Professor and serves as Director of the National Disability Center for Student Success. Andrew is also the Editor-in-Chief of Information & Culture and is an author of more than 100 articles and books on information behavior and design, including 'Understanding Users' published by Routledge in 2023. With extensive editorial board and consulting experience, he has received research funding from NSF, Microsoft, IES, and CEC. An early activist in the iSchool movement, he is committed to advancing education in information science, advocating for design approaches that enhance discovery, augment human existence, and shape a democratic world.
