Biography

Andrew Dougall is a Departmental Lecturer in International Relations, with dual affiliations at Oxford’s Department of Politics and International Relations as well as St Hilda’s College, and also holds a position at Pembroke College. His research primarily focuses on global politics and communication technology from a historical and sociological perspective. His teaching encompasses tutoring students in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) with a focus on History and Politics, along with contributing to graduate teaching and supervision for the MPhil in International Relations. His research interests have widened to include the implications of digitalization on world politics, particularly the impact of communication technologies on long-term international political structures. Dougall's forthcoming book, "Mediatizing Nation, Ordering World," is set to be published by Oxford University Press in 2024 and examines the political rise of Donald Trump in a historical context, comparing it with a failed nationalist ordering project of the 19th century British imperial world. His current projects engage with themes surrounding generative AI within liberal international order, infrastructure building in international politics, and the historical governance of data by the UNHCR.
