Biography

Andrew Dunning is the R.W. Hunt Curator of Medieval Manuscripts at the Bodleian Library and a Hugh Price Fellow at Jesus College, University of Oxford. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa, and later obtained a Master's and Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from the University of Toronto. He also holds a Licentiate in Mediaeval Studies from the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies. Dunning's work focuses on the preservation and interpretation of significant collections of medieval manuscripts, and he has previously held positions as a Curator of Medieval Historical Manuscripts at the British Library and as a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies. His research interests include the production, use, and circulation of medieval books in Europe from the eleventh to the sixteenth centuries, emphasizing the activities of authors and textual communities during the Middle Ages. He is involved in various projects aimed at digitizing manuscripts and enhancing the understanding of medieval texts through digital methods. Dunning also teaches medieval manuscripts and book history, supervises graduate students, and serves as the chair of the MSt examination in Medieval Studies at Oxford.
