Professor Dr. Andrew Edwards

Biography

Andrew Edwards is an Associate Professor at Imperial College London specializing in Molecular Microbiology. His research focuses on understanding how antibiotics kill bacteria and developing novel therapeutic approaches to overcome antibiotic resistance and tolerance. His work is centered around four main themes: understanding how polymyxins, such as colistin, kill bacteria and the challenges posed by drug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens; determining the molecular basis of colistin resistance and hetero-resistance in these pathogens, particularly in collaboration with Imperial's Health Protection Research Unit; exploring how the host environment affects antibiotic susceptibility; and developing new therapeutics to increase bacterial susceptibility to antibiotics in collaboration with colleagues in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Bioengineering.
