Biography

Andrew Friedman is a Lecturer at Columbia Law School and the Senior Director of Strategy and co-founder of Action Lab. He serves as the Director of the Initiative on Community Power at New York University School of Law, leading efforts to empower local communities. In 2012, Andrew founded the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD), which has become the largest federated network of community organizing groups in the United States. With over 15 years of experience, he previously co-founded and spent time building Make the Road New York, a democratically run, immigrant-led community organization based in New York State. Additionally, Andrew co-founded Local Progress, a national network of progressive municipal elected officials aimed at promoting social justice and equity at the local level. His teaching experience includes positions at NYU School of Law, NYU Wagner School of Public Service, and The New School for Social Research, as well as Columbia Law School.
