Dr. Andrew Goodwin

Biography

Andrew Goodwin is a Professor of Materials Chemistry at the University of Oxford, where he leads a diverse and creative research group in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory. He was born in Australia and studied at the Universities of Sydney and Cambridge. His research focuses on understanding and exploiting structural flexibility and disorder in functional materials, particularly in the context of novel energy storage, thermoelectrics, and smart materials. The Goodwin Group employs advanced characterization techniques, including total scattering and single-crystal diffuse scattering, to investigate disordered states using X-rays, neutrons, and electrons. Andrew has received notable recognitions, including the Royal Society of Chemistry's Harrison-Meldola, Marlow, and Corday-Morgan prizes, and he is an inaugural UK Blavatnik Laureate in Chemistry. He has held Starting and Advanced Grants from the European Research Council and serves in advisory roles for various leading research agencies, including the Leverhulme Trust and Max-Planck-Gesellschaft.
