Dr. Andrew Guzman

Biography

Andrew T. Guzman is the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University of Southern California, holding the Shelly Ofer Nemirovsky Provost’s Chair as a Professor of Law and Political Science. He has previously served as the dean of the USC Gould School of Law and held the Carl Mason Franklin Chair in Law. An expert in international law and economics, Guzman has written extensively on topics including international trade, regulatory matters, and foreign direct investment. His interdisciplinary research spans public and private international law, particularly focusing on international tribunals and soft law. In leadership roles, he has influenced significant educational advancements at USC Gould, striving to enhance the quality of the JD program and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Prior to his current position, Guzman was a professor of law and associate dean at UC Berkeley, where he directed the International Executive Legal Education Program. He has also been a visiting professor at several prestigious law schools around the globe. Guzman earned his JD and PhD in Economics at Harvard University and contributed as a Books & Commentaries Editor for the Harvard Law Review.
