Dr. Andrew Harris

Biography

Andrew R. Harris is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Aerospace Engineering Department at Carleton University. He holds a Ph.D. from University College London and an MPhys from the University of Leeds. His research interests lie in investigating the molecular determinants of cell and tissue mechanical properties, with a particular focus on polymer mechanics and the engineering of new tools to study biology. His current research is centered on reverse engineering the mechanical properties of proteins and cell tissues to enhance regenerative medicine techniques. Furthermore, he is focused on studying subcellular networks of polymers and proteins that endow cells and tissues with mechanical characteristics critical for physiological function. His interdisciplinary research involves developing novel tools and techniques for measuring cellular mechanical properties to better understand the origins of diseases and to develop new therapeutic approaches.
