Biography

Andrew Hemphill practices family medicine and serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Western University. He completed a Bachelor of Medical Sciences at Western University before working for two years in brain injury rehabilitation in his hometown of St. Catharines. Following this, he attended Western medical school, completing his family medicine residency through Western’s regional program in Strathroy. He undertook a fellowship in low-risk obstetrics at the University of Toronto and has worked in various small communities across Ontario. Dr. Hemphill is passionate about medical education, contributing significantly to the undergraduate and postgraduate curricula at Western University, where he leads the family medicine Transition Clerkship course. In addition to teaching, Dr. Hemphill enjoys participating in various sports including volleyball, curling, golf, pickleball, and hockey. His love of travel has taken him to numerous countries such as Madagascar, Egypt, Greece, and the Galapagos Islands. This passion for travel inspired him to pursue a Master’s in Global Health with a focus on Infectious Diseases at the University of Edinburgh, where his dissertation examined maternal-fetal effects of food-borne illnesses during pregnancy.
