Biography

Andrew F. Jones teaches modern Chinese literature and media culture. He is the author of three books on modern Chinese music including 'Like Knife: Ideology Genre Contemporary Chinese Popular Music' (Cornell East Asia Series, 1992), 'Yellow Music: Media Culture Colonial Modernity Chinese Jazz Age' (Duke University Press, 2001), and 'Circuit Listening: Chinese Popular Music Global 1960s' (University of Minnesota Press, 2020). He is also a co-editor of a special issue of 'positions: east asia cultures critique' entitled 'Afro-Asian Century' and has translated works of literary fiction, notably 'Written Water' by Eileen Chang. His published work includes 'Developmental Fairy Tales: Evolutionary Thinking Modern Chinese Culture' (Harvard University Press, 2011) and a volume he co-edited on child issues in modern Chinese literature and culture, titled 'The Discovery of the Child: the Problem of the Child in Modern Chinese Literature and Culture' (Peking University Press, 2011).
