Biography

Andrew Koppelman is the John Paul Stevens Professor of Law at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. His areas of focus include First Amendment rights, law and religion, and law and sexuality. Koppelman authored a significant argument as part of a 1988 law student note, showcasing that discrimination against gay individuals constitutes illegal sex discrimination. This argument was subsequently adopted in the Supreme Court decision Bostock v. Clayton County in 2020.
