Biography

Andrew C. Kurtz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth & Environment at Boston University, where he also serves as the Director of the BU Marine Program. His research focuses on the application of trace element isotope geochemistry to understand Earth surface processes, Earth history, and biogeochemical cycles. He has a particular interest in the connections between terrestrial and marine processes, including the significant links created by silicate weathering and the role it plays in releasing essential nutrients from bedrock. Kurtz investigates the influence of these processes on the composition and magnitude of riverine dissolved and particulate loads and their importance in global cycles of carbon, silicon, and phosphorus. His academic credentials include a PhD and an MS from Cornell University, as well as a BS from Ohio University.
