Biography

Andrew Laing is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Injury Biomechanics Aging Laboratory at the University of Waterloo, focusing on musculoskeletal biomechanics related to human health and injury prevention. His research centers around understanding the mechanisms behind fall-related injuries, such as hip fractures and traumatic brain injuries, and the effects of advanced age on mobility and balance. Over the last five years, he has concentrated on investigating workplace musculoskeletal disorders and employing experimental paradigms with human volunteers and mechanical impact simulators to explore load effects on the body during falls. Andrew's work aims to complement existing knowledge on age-specific injury mechanisms and develop targeted interventions for different age groups. He is also actively supervising graduate students and encouraging those interested to apply for opportunities within his lab.
