Dr. Andrew Lakoff

Biography

Andrew Lakoff holds a joint appointment in the Departments of Sociology and Communication at the University of Southern California, where he is a professor. He is a trained anthropologist with extensive research conducted in Argentina, France, and the United States. His areas of interest include globalization processes, the history of human sciences, contemporary social theory, and the concept of risk society. His notable works include 'Pharmaceutical Reason: Knowledge Value Global Psychiatry', which examines the global circulation of pharmaceuticals and the spreading of biological models of human behavior. Lakoff has co-edited and contributed to numerous publications focusing on global health, biosecurity, and the sociology of health. His recent research critically engages with public health security within a global context, producing volumes such as 'Biosecurity Interventions: Global Health Security Question' and 'Disaster Politics Intervention'. Lakoff’s scholarly output is characterized by innovative interdisciplinary approaches integrating sociocultural anthropology with pressing global health issues.
