Biography

I collected rocks and fossils as a child, which sparked my interest in fossil plants while studying undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania. I worked with Hermann Pfefferkorn on Carboniferous floras in the Canadian Arctic and continued to pursue paleobotany in graduate studies at the University of Chicago under the guidance of Kevin Boyce, where I investigated the evolution of reproductive morphology in both fossil and living conifers. Following my years as a postdoctoral researcher at Yale University with Peter Crane and Michael Donoghue in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, I joined the faculty at Stanford University. My primary focus is on the morphological evolution of plant reproductive structures across million-year timescales, utilizing a multidisciplinary approach that synthesizes knowledge from paleontology, biomechanics, phylogenetics, and biogeography.
