Biography

Andrew Levidis is a Lecturer in Modern Japanese History at the Australian National University. He completed his doctorate in History at the Faculty of Law of Kyoto University and has served as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University within the Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies, focusing on U.S.-Japan relations at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. Levidis has also been a Research Associate Fellow at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Cambridge. His work primarily revolves around the international history of modern Japan and its empire, addressing themes such as the Cold War and global intellectual history. He has co-edited the volume 'Ruins of the Japanese Empire: Imperial Violence, State Destruction, Reordering Modern East Asia' published by Hong Kong University Press in 2020. His monograph entitled 'Memory Empire: Kishi Nobusuke and the Transwar Japanese Right' analyzes the rise of right-wing conservatism in Japan during the Cold War. Levidis's research interests include Empire, Cold War, Global Capitalism, and Modern Japan.
