Biography

Andrew Mackillop is a Professor of History at the University of Glasgow, specializing in Early Modern Scottish History. His research interests focus on the integration of Scotland into the British Union by the year 1707, and the impacts this had on Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, as well as the role of the British Empire in Asia, particularly the involvement of the English East India Company from 1690 to 1820. He employs social network models and global-local history approaches to analyze early modern British imperialism and expansion, with particular attention to Scottish, Irish, and Welsh immigrant communities in early modern London between c.1660 and 1830. Mackillop's work also examines the significance of Scots law within the context of the Early Modern British Empire. He is involved in several research projects, including a Leverhulme Trust Research Project, and supervises postgraduate students focusing on topics related to his area of expertise. In addition to his research, he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Scottish history and military studies.
