Biography

Andrew Mason is an Honorary Research Associate in the Department of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in 1989 and a Master of Arts in 1992, both from UBC. Mason is a trained anthropological archaeologist with extensive experience as a heritage consultant across Canada and internationally. His work spans urban and rural environments, focusing on cultural heritage management and policy. He has served as the Vice President of the International Committee on Archaeological Heritage Management from 2011 to 2020 and is involved with ICOMOS, advising UNESCO on World Heritage sites. Mason teaches ARCL 424, which concerns Archaeology Management and Cultural Resources. His research is centered on World Heritage and policies for safeguarding cultural heritage. He has published various articles in prominent journals and contributed to encyclopedias on global archaeology.
