Biography

Andrew McArthur is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Biomedical Sciences at McMaster University. His research program focuses on bioinformatics, functional genomics, and computational biology, with a particular emphasis on genomic surveillance of antimicrobial resistance. He leads the Comprehensive Antibiotic Resistance Database (CARD), which plays a crucial role in the Canadian Anti-Infective Innovation Network and international genomic epidemiology applications. McArthur has extensive experience in evolutionary ecology, molecular modeling, bioinformatics, genomics, infectious diseases, and microbiology. He holds a PhD from the University of Victoria and an Honors Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Ontario. His postdoctoral training includes work as a Postdoctoral Scientist in genomic sequencing at the Josephine Bay Paul Center and as a Postdoctoral Fellow in molecular systematics at the National Museum of Natural History. McArthur has previously held the position of CEO and Owner at McArthur Bioinformatics from 2006 to 2014. He is committed to advancing the understanding of microbial genomics and its implications for public health.
