Biography

Andrew Mesecar is the Distinguished Walther Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Purdue University, specializing in Cancer Structural Biology and Biochemistry. His research focuses on the structure and function of enzymes and their biomedical significance. Mesecar's laboratory aims to gain a deeper understanding of the roles that enzymes play in disease processes, particularly how they recognize and catalyze the transformation of substrates into products. Currently, his studies involve investigating the enzymes that promote cancer, as well as those related to coronavirus infections and Alzheimer’s disease. Utilizing an array of advanced techniques from chemistry, biology, and physics, his research employs state-of-the-art methods such as static and time-resolved X-ray crystallography, enzymology, molecular biology, mass-spectrometry proteomics, assay development, high-throughput screening, and molecular modeling. His multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach addresses the complexities of enzymatic catalysis and molecular recognition in contemporary scientific investigations and education.
