Biography

Andrew D. Nevin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Guelph, affiliated with the Criminal Justice Public Policy program. His research connects major areas—technology, deviance, and inequality—that converge to explore the wide-ranging social implications of digital technologies, primarily through quantitative methods. Nevin's current research agenda investigates cybercrime, cyber-harassment, and identity theft under the umbrella of digital sociology. He is also engaged in a larger ongoing project that addresses theoretical debates within the subfield of cyber-criminology, proposing new frameworks that account for the structural differences between online and offline spaces. The empirical applications of his work look into the contextual gaps in offending behaviors, specifically examining how individuals engage in misconduct on the internet compared to face-to-face environments. Nevin is currently serving as co-chair of the Internet, Technology, & Digital Sociology research cluster within the Canadian Sociological Association. His keywords include Digital Sociology, Cyber-Criminology, Crime & Deviance, Inequality, Quantitative Methods, and Survey Methods.
