Dr. Andrew Newcombe

Biography

Andrew Newcombe is a faculty member at the University of Victoria's Faculty of Law since 2002, where he serves as the Associate Dean of Academic Student Relations and holds the position of Professor. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from King's College, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Victoria, and a Master of Laws from the University of Toronto. Prior to joining the faculty, Newcombe gained valuable experience at Swinton & Co. in Vancouver, now known as Miller Thomson. He also worked with the International Arbitration and Public International Law groups at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Paris while pursuing his LLM. His research areas include international arbitration, international investment law, and international economic law. He has made significant contributions to the field, including co-authoring the leading treatise 'Law Practice Investment Treaties: Standards Treatment' and co-editing 'Sustainable Development in World Investment Law.' In addition to his academic work, Newcombe provides advice to governments, investors, and non-State actors, and acts as counsel and arbitrator in international arbitrations.
