Andrew Nyblade is a Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Penn State University, where he focuses on a variety of research areas involving the use of seismic data to investigate Earth’s structure and processes across different scales, from the deep mantle to the surface. His integrated research and educational efforts aim to enhance diversity within the geosciences. He is the co-director of the AfricaArray, a significant initiative designed to support science education and research in Africa, which aims to understand one of the largest geophysical anomalies in the Earth's mantle. Nyblade has devoted over twenty years to investigating the geology of Antarctica and is involved in the multi-institutional POLENET project that establishes a seismic GPS network across West Antarctica. His work also addresses the complex issues of induced seismicity in the Appalachian Basin related to hydraulic fracking wastewater disposal. Additionally, he studies the Critical Zone, emphasizing the physical and geochemical processes that sustain life by transforming bedrock into soil. Nyblade has been a faculty member at Penn State since 1994, after completing a postdoctoral fellowship with the National Science Foundation and has received numerous honors including the President’s Award for Excellence in Academic Integration and recognition as a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union.
