Biography

Andrew Patrizio specializes in contemporary art and has been a prominent figure in the field since transitioning to full-time academic and curatorial roles in the 1990s. His primary research areas include Scottish art since 1945, as well as art's intersections with ecology and the environment. He has supervised 16 successful PhD completions and remains open to new PhD inquiries related to art, ecology, and Scottish art. Over the years, his work has evolved firmly towards ecological studies, notably highlighted by his 2019 monograph 'Ecological Eye. Assembling Ecocritical Art History' published by Manchester University Press. Patrizio has organized international workshops on eco-methodologies in art history and has collaborated with artists such as Ilana Halperin, Christine Borland, and Gillian Wearing. He co-curated the exhibition 'Scottish Endarkenment: Art & Unreason 1945 Present,' which was recognized by The Guardian as one of the top ten UK exhibitions of the year. His contributions extend to multiple AHRC-funded projects and he serves on various academic boards, including the Edinburgh University Press and the European Forum for Advanced Practices. His teaching includes Undergraduate and Master's courses focused on recent developments in Scottish art and eco-aesthetics.
