Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Andrew Phillips. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Andrew specializes in structural biomechanics, particularly in the development of combined musculoskeletal finite element modeling approaches. His recent work investigates the application of optimization strategies within structural engineering and skeletal biomechanics. He has developed a growing interest in bio-inspired structures for the design of structural forms based on multiple environmental factors. Andrew gained his MEng degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Edinburgh in 2001 and went on to study Orthopaedic Engineering, earning his PhD titled 'Numerical Modelling of the Pelvis-Acetabular Construct in Hip Arthroplasty' from the University of Edinburgh in 2005. He spent a year as a Research Fellow at the Edinburgh Orthopaedic Engineering Centre before taking up a position as a Lecturer at Imperial College London. He is the leader of the Structural Biomechanics Group and serves as the Learning Threads Coordinator for the MEng Civil Engineering degree course. With a particular interest in engineering education, he completed an MEd at ULT Imperial in 2014, investigating conceptions of the engineering leadership role in universities. Andrew is a regular contributor to the Royal Institution of Great Britain and is involved in Engineering Masterclasses and Summer School workshops. He has organized the Parametric Engineering Course, taught in collaboration with Arup SimplyRhino at Imperial.
