Biography

Andrew Pinnock teaches arts management and cultural policy to students at the University of Southampton, making special provisions for musicians. He has worked in the Arts Council’s music department for 13 years before moving to Southampton, where he has developed national policy spending tens of millions of pounds of public money. He continues to draw from this experience and shares it happily. He is closely associated with high-profile arts venues in Southampton, such as the Turner Sims concert hall and the John Hansard Gallery, providing eye-opening lecture content in the introductory module “How Arts Work.” Pinnock has a track record of publication in cultural policy and organology, particularly regarding early English opera. He has co-edited volumes for the Purcell Society’s complete edition of Purcell's works, including titles like the Indian Queen and Fairy Queen, with King Arthur forthcoming. He is an active research supervisor for students working on a fascinating range of projects and encourages career-oriented research that addresses the concerns of working musicians and academics. Additionally, he is a busy member of the teaching team for Southampton’s MA in International Music Management.
