Biography

Andrew Poirier hails from Lewisporte, Newfoundland, where he began his musical studies with the Salvation Army. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia, followed by a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Andrew has studied under renowned trombonists such as Mark Lawrence, Gordon Cherry, and Kenneth Knowles. He serves as the 2nd Trombonist for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and is a founding member and ensemble manager of the Vancouver Brass Orchestra. He is also a founding member of the Canadian Trombone Quintet, iTromboni. In addition to his performing career, Andrew engages with various musical outlets, including performances with the Arts Club Theater Company and the Vancouver Film Orchestra. He is an avid arranger and transcriber for brass music, with pieces performed by trombone ensembles and brass bands worldwide. His arrangements have been recorded by iTromboni, the Vancouver Brass Orchestra, and the Canadian Staff Band of the Salvation Army, with several pieces published by Cherry Classics Music. Additionally, Andrew teaches private trombone lessons.
