Andrew Price joined the faculty of Boston University's College of Fine Arts as a Lecturer in Music focusing on the oboe. He has an extensive performance background, having served as principal oboist for the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, while regularly playing with both the Boston Pops Orchestra and Boston Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he has held the role of acting principal oboe for the Boston Lyric Opera. He is a graduate of Boston University where he studied oboe under the late Ralph Gomberg, who was the principal oboist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His teachers include Jonathan Dlouhy from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Larry Thorstenberg from the Boston Symphony Orchestra. From 1984 to 1988, Price was a substitute oboist with the Atlanta Symphony under the direction of the late Robert Shaw. He was also an assistant faculty member at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute from 1997 to 2007, teaching oboe to young artists. Price's playing has been featured in the documentary series 'American Experience,' produced by WGBH. He served as principal oboe with the Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra from 1994 until 2011, where he performed the American premiere of the newly reconstructed Largo of the lost Beethoven Oboe Concerto, as well as Thomas Oboe Lee’s Oboe Concerto, 'Persephone,' dedicated to his teacher Ralph Gomberg. The Boston Globe has described his performances as 'beautifully sensitive and eloquent' and 'first-rate.'
